When designers first begin working with Black Label Home, one of the most common questions we hear is simple: What can you create?
Black Label Home is a custom furniture manufacturer for the design trade. Designers can modify a piece from our collection or bring us an original concept. Through flexible customization, an extensive selection of materials and finishes, tailored comfort, and bench-made construction, we help transform a designer’s vision into furniture created specifically for the project.
Here are five things designers should know about working with Black Label Home.

1. Begin With Our Collection or Your Own Design
A custom furniture project does not need to begin with a completed technical drawing.
Designers may start with a Black Label Home piece and modify it to meet the needs of a project. They may also provide a sketch, drawing, inspiration image, or existing furniture piece that communicates the desired direction.
These references help us understand the silhouette, scale, proportions, details, and overall character of the design. Our team can then evaluate how to translate the idea into a piece that is both beautiful and buildable.

2. Create Custom Furniture for Residential and Hospitality Projects
Black Label Home manufactures sofas, sectionals, accent and club chairs, dining chairs and barstools, beds, chaises, daybeds, ottomans, benches, and stools.
Designers can create one distinctive piece or develop multiple coordinating designs for a larger residential or hospitality project. Dimensions and proportions can be adapted to the architecture, floor plan, and intended use of the space.
A sectional may need to respond to a specific room configuration. A dining chair may require a particular seat height or profile. A bed may need to be scaled for the room while coordinating with surrounding millwork and finishes.
Our custom capabilities give designers the freedom to create furniture that responds to the project rather than asking the project to accommodate standard dimensions.
3. Customize Dimensions, Materials, Finishes, and Comfort
The success of a custom piece is often found in the details.
Depending on the design, Black Label Home can customize dimensions, proportions, upholstery, cushion construction, finishes, and decorative elements. Designers may select from hundreds of fabrics and leathers or provide their own material through our COM program.
Comfort can also be tailored through different foam densities and cushion options, including feather blends, synthetic down alternatives, and individually wrapped coil innerspring construction.
Our furniture finish collection includes premium white oak finishes and a broad selection of standard options. Custom color matching is available upon request. Walnut, specialty woods, and metal finishes may also be considered when the design calls for a more individualized material expression.
Together, these choices allow designers to control how the piece looks, feels, and relates to the complete interior.
4. Translate a Design Concept Into a Buildable Piece
An inspiration image or sketch communicates the creative direction, but producing the piece requires an understanding of structure, materials, comfort, and long-term use.
This is where the relationship between the designer and manufacturer becomes especially valuable. Our team considers how the dimensions, frame, cushioning, upholstery, and finishing details work together. If an element requires refinement, we can discuss possible solutions while remaining faithful to the original design intent.
The goal is not to change the designer’s vision. It is to give that vision the construction and technical foundation it needs to become a successful finished piece.
5. Rely on Bench-Made Furniture Construction
Every Black Label Home order is individually bench-made by a single upholsterer. We do not use assembly-line or mass-production methods.
Frames are handcrafted as a single unit using kiln-dried solid alder wood. They are stapled, glued, and corner-blocked for strength and rigidity. Cushion construction is selected according to the style, intended use, and desired comfort. Every completed order is carefully inspected before packaging.
Our bench-made construction process allows close attention to the details that distinguish custom furniture. It also gives designers confidence that the care invested in the concept will continue through manufacturing.
