The designer

Kristen Fiore

Kristen Elizabeth Design approached the primary suite from its largest architectural gestures down to the smallest material details. With fourteen-foot ceilings, a stone fireplace, and an illuminated architectural wall, the room needed a soft, welcoming center.

Kristen’s vision was an enveloping upholstered bed with the presence to balance the room’s scale. The Paddington translates that idea into a sculptural form made specifically for the space.

Elevation and plan sketches for The Paddington bed
Robert’s elevation and plan sketches established the proportions and technical requirements.

From sketch to form

A shared design process

Robert Wylie translated Kristen’s inspiration and dimensions into scaled drawings and a sample frame. Photographs, measurements, and video calls allowed designer and maker to refine the proportions together.

The wings were reshaped to respect the adjacent windows while preserving the soft, embracing silhouette. Each adjustment brought the design closer to the room and to Kristen’s original intent.

Materials & function

Every detail belongs

Floating rift-cut white oak nightstands follow the curved upholstered wings. Their linear grain, bowed fronts, and leather-faced metal pulls add texture without interrupting the bed’s silhouette.

Concealed charging inside the top drawers brings everyday function into the design. Clearances, electrical access, and installation details were considered before fabrication.

Textured COM upholstery fabric selected for The Paddington

Tailored to the curve

Material follows form

The selected Customer’s Own Material (COM) fabric combines a soft, finely looped surface with the flexibility needed for the bed’s compound curves. Robert evaluated how it would stretch and behave across the frame.

The fabric complements the room’s rug, oak, leather, and stone, connecting the bed to the wider material palette.

Designer & artisan

Built through collaboration

Kristen brought her understanding of the clients, the architecture, and the feeling the room should create. Robert and the Black Label Home craftspeople brought the interpretation, technical development, and fabrication.

The result is a bespoke upholstered bed shaped around the room and the people who live there.

Designed together. Made without limits.
